Heroes

20 03 2007

Another sleepless night.  Dunno what’s up with Patrick.  He was pretty much up from the time Kate went to bed (8PM) until around 3AM.  I think I got around 3 hours.

Anyways, it just means we’ve been watching alot of Heroes.  I had a lot of people recommend this show to me.  Being a comic book fan, this show is terrific but even if you’re not into comics the characters and storyline are really really good and get better with each episode.

Right now all 18 episodes are available to watch online at nbc.com until new episodes start broadcasting again April 23.  We just finished episode 9.   John McC said it was the best show this year.  I have to admit that Lost has had its share of stumbles this season, although it is recovering nicely now.  Heroes is no Lost, but it is very good and I definitely enjoy it — it does however borrow some of Lost’s better qualities:  a large ensemble cast, backstories (and future stories), a tale that gets deeper and deeper the more you go into it.

This is definitely not a complete assessment as I’m only halfway through the current season thus far.  But there are definitely comparisons to X-Men.  The “special abilities” developing compared to the “mutant” gene is just about the same.  I’m wondering if the “heroes” will unite to form a supergroup, but we’ll see.  Here’s my breakdown of each hero and their X-man counterpart.

  • Niki/Jessica Sanders — Jean Grey/Phoenix (2 personalities in the same body.  The Phoenix is just as much a loose cannon as Jessica is)
  • Peter Petrelli — Rogue (in terms of “borrowing” another person’s power)
  • Claire Bennet — Wolverine (in terms of regeneration/healing factor — not claws)
  • D.L. Hawkins — Kitty Pride (able to pass through solid objects)
  • Matt Parkman — Charles Xiaver (able to read people’s thoughts)
  • Hiro Nakamura — Nightcrawler (able to teleport through time/space)

The other characters don’t have direct connections that I can tell of.  But I’m eager to see more characters/powers as time passes.  Should be interesting to see if they make a character with super strength.

Anyways, check it out!

I am here to comment on the “dunno what’s up with Patrick” Really? You don’t? come on. have you forgotten your first born and the nights following? You are entering the zone of complete and total exhaustion for at LEAST 2 years! and that is kind. Anyway, I am glad you are catching up on your show series though. Myaswell…

this waiting for episodes to be broadcast weekly really sucks. why can’t the studios go directly to DVD and then broadcast them?
